Corvette News Summary | October 2022

October has been filled with many proud moments for Corvette lovers and enthusiasts, especially those who ordered the C8 Z06 and are soon to become its proud owners. The C8 Z06 has shown it's a force to be reckoned with during supercars conversations and more. These proud moments are just the tip of the iceberg for all that has happened in the Corvette world for October. Without further ado, let us get into it…

Video: Track Driving & Exhaust 2023 Torch Red Z06

There's never enough content of the C8 Z06, and this video proves just that. It's simply a video of b-roll footage of a C8 Z06 on track to the sounds of its exhaust.

You can hear the flat-plane crankshaft and all its glory barreling down the track, and taking corners.

You are going to want to put your headphones on for this sympthony of C8 Z06 sounds from the track.

Emelia Hartford Sets New Record With The 2023 Corvette Z06

Emelia Hartford set a new record for the quarter mile time for the 2023 Corvette Z06, and no, this is a stock Z06, unlike her twin-tubo C8 Stingray in which she previously set a record.

Chevrolet had previously announced a 10.6 quarter-mile time and 0 - 60 mph in 2.6 seconds for the 2023 Corvette Z06.

Emelia initially struggled with beating the quarter mile time provided by Chevy. Then, after a few changes, such as using high-octane fuel, changing the launch control from automatic, increasing pressure in front tires, and cooling the car engine, she was able to set a new quarter-mile time of 10.51 and 0 - 60 mph in 2.2 seconds for the 2023 C0rvette Z06.

The Evolution of the Z06

In a recently released video on Chevrolet's YouTube channel, the C8 Z06 was pitted against the C5 Z06, C6 Z06, and C7 Z06, and as expected, the 670 hp C8 Z06 won.

Of course, the real intent behind the video was to display the changes over the generations that the z06 went through, and we are not complaining. You can check out this neat video below:

C8 Z06 Build Update

In an update from MidEngine Corvette Forum co-founder, John, we learned that 14 C8 Z06s are slated for manufacture.

The snippet shown depicts the build type and options chosen as well as the date of manufacture.

If you are worried that fourteen C8 Z06s does not sound like too many, then you are correct; however, Corvette has started that their initial ramp up will be slow.

This follows our previous headline from September's Corvette News Summary of many people hitting order status 3400.

2023 Corvette Z06 vs. Lamborghini Evo vs. Ferrari 458

It's not often we post two headlines from one source, but this video was too fun not to share from Emelia.

In a video posted by her, she hosted races against formible exotics with two of her friends, and competent racers. The cars pitted against each other were:

  • Lamborghini Evo (3400 lbs, 600 hp)
  • Ferrari 458 (3200 lbs, 570 hp)
  • 2023 Corvette C8 Z06 (3700 lbs, 670 hp)

This "competition" started with the C8 Z06 and the 458 having a go at each other twice, and the C8 Z06 won both races. The C8 Z06 also raced against the Evo twice, and both races ended up with the C8 Z06 winning again.

It must be said that the C8 Z06 looks at home compared to these two Italian exotics. Well done America.

Edge Red Calipers and LT2 Engine Covers Are Back

If you recall from our September CNS, Chevy had changed the Edge Red calipers to a Bright Red on the 70th Anniversary Package. However, it appears Edge Red is back on the table! Hence the LT2 Engine Covers and the Edge Red calipers are now available for ordering with the 70th Anniversary Package or as a stand-alone option.

This part feels like a love/hate relationship with Chevrolet. It is coming in and out of constraint. At least with the C8 High Wing it stays on constraint...

This was the full memo sent out to Corvette dealers in Octover:

  • RPO: (J6N) Edge Red Calipers are now included in (Y70) Anniversary Special Edition Corvette.
  • RPO: (J6N) Edge Red Calipers are available without (Y70) Anniversary Edition.
  • RPO: (J6F) Bright Red Caliper will remain available.
  • LPO: (RCC) Edge Red Engine Cover is now Included on the 1YC07 & 3LT Stingray coupe with RPO: (Y70) Anniversary Edition.
  • LPO: (RCC) Edge Red Engine Cover is also available without (Y70) Anniversary Edition (available on 1YC07 & 1LT/2LT/3LT coupe models).

Car and Driver Test the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

Car & Driver, one of the best car review websites, dropped their "two cents" on the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 after they took it for their test.

The subject of their test was a 70th Anniversary 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with the $8495 Carbon Aero Package. During this test, the Z06 delivered a 2.7 seconds 60 mph tune, a 10.7-second quarter-mile at 129 mph, and a 12 mpg (EPA city figure).

If you are just wondering what their final verdict was of the Z06 instead of reading the full article, then here is what they had to say:

Verdict: Best. Corvette. Ever.
