Corvette News Summary | July 2022
Update: August Corvette News Summary Now Available!
July was filled with many long-awaited updates, promising more updates and fun in the coming months. GM has received various releases this month concerning the 2023 Corvette Z06. Without further ado, let's get into the details.
GM Delivers 8,630 Corvettes In The 2nd Quarter of 2022
GM released a sales report on the 1st of July, which was about the Corvette sales recorded in the 2nd quarter of 2022. In this report, GM revealed that they completed 8,630 new Corvette deliveries in Q2, 2022.
It seems GM is working hard to uphold this high delivery record for 2022, despite the shortage of chips and parts, as the total amount of new Corvettes deliveries made in the first half of 2022 (17,441 Corvettes) is about 19.6% more than that of the time frame in 2021 (14,582).
Let's take a look at the last three years of C8 Corvette production numbers. Note that General Motors used to breakdown their numbers monthly, but since Q2 of 2018 they shifted to a quarterly reporting.
Year | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | Total |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
2022 | 8811 | 8630 | - | - | 17441 |
2021 | 6611 | 7971 | 10166 | 8293 | 33041 |
2020 | 3820 | 2459 | 6355 | 8992 | 21626 |
2019 | 3943 | 5788 | 4766 | 3491 | 17988 |

Mike Furman Receives First of Two 70th Anniversary Stingrays
If you have been following the last few editions of the ACS Corvette News Summary, then you will have likely read about the numerous production delays of the 70th Anniversary Edition C8s. However, it appears Mike Furman, National Corvette Specialist of Criswell Auto was one of the firsts to receive his C8, and VIN 007!
Furman had this to say on his facebook post about his White Pearl 2023 convertible:
35 years since I purchased an Anniversary edition Corvette…Today I took delivery of my 23rd Corvette, a White Pearl 2023 Corvette Convertible vin 00007 as all the 70th anniversary editions are sequential. This is possibly/probably the very first retail delivery as most of the target production weeks for these “70th”cars start 8/8/22. The White Pearl paint on a Corvette has never been done and it’s stunning. My 35th anniversary Corvette was White/Black as were all 2,050 in 1988, mine was #131. I chose no stripes on my 70th with a Carbon Flash black top/nacelles as I was trying to mirror the 35th from 1988. It’s interesting that the color code on my build sheet reads out “Abalone” instead of White Pearl metallic tri coat. Abalone is the GM original code name, I’ve seen this in the past over the last few decades.
Here are some great shots of his C8 that he posted as well

Chevrolet Corvette C8 E-Ray at the Nurburgring
After Chevy released a short video of the C8 E-Ray on the Corvette Academy YouTube channel in April, this car had been seen in July by some spy shots while it was being tested on Europe's toughest track, Nurburgring, in Germany.
There have been many speculations about this car since the video was released in April, which are yet to be confirmed, as the photos taken of the C8 E-Ray by these spies aren't enough to guess the details of this car.
We are sure of these two things that it is the first AWD electric hybrid C8 Vette and is due to be made available for ordering in 2023. The fact that it's a hybrid was confirmed in the photos taken, in which we can see a yellow sticker on the Corvette engine cover, as one of the many rules at the Nurburgring is that all hybrids and electrics on the track must have this sticker on.

The 2023 Corvette Z06: A Look Into Its Production
Regarded as the closest a street car has ever gotten to a race car. In a video uploaded a few days on the Corvette youtube channel, core names in the Corvette brand broke down how they were able to combine track-tuned performance and street smarts to give the Z06 race car status.
Such names include Tommy Milner (Driver, Corvette Racing), Josh Holder (Chief Engineer, Corvette), and then Laura Wontrop Klauser (Sports Car Racing Program, Manager).
To give the Z06 the race car status, there was more collaboration between the Production Engineering and Racing Engineering teams than had ever been seen in previous Corvette production years. There were constant back and forth, remodification, and great synergy between both teams to give us the powerful beast with 670 hp.
You can watch the video below:
The Z06 Accessory Options Unavailable For Ordering
A series of back-and-forth emails between Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles and John at MidEngineCorvetteForum.com revealed that some accessory options won't be available to be ordered with the 2023 Corvette Z06.
These options include:
- LT6 X-Brace
- Visible Carbon Fiber Rear Deck Spoiler
- Visible Carbon Fiber Accessory Grille Inserts
- Carbon Fiber Engine Cover
- Accessory Visible Carbon Fiber Mirrors
As expected, there is a disclaimer on several of the carbon fiber accessories: "Late Availability. Corvette Accessories are dealer-installed and covered by the GM 3-year/36,000-mile (whichever comes first) New Vehicle Limited Warranty when ordered with your new Corvette. See your dealer for details."

Rick Conti's 2023 Z06 Corvette Features
Rick Conti provided some updates on the 2023 Corvette Z06 pricing, production, and dealership tour.
In response to some Corvette enthusiasts' view on the price of the Z06, Rick reminds us of the Corvette ZR1 released in 2019 with an initial base price of $119,000, which is some thousand dollars more than that of the Z06.
Rick also made some speculations such as:
- The Z06 build configurator won't be up until late September/early October.
- There will be tighter and less availability of the Stingray as Chevy will focus more on the production of the Z06. This is a result of parts scarcity.

Ever wonder where all those RPO such as 5VM codes come from? That would be the order guide distributed to all Corvette dealerships. It outlines all the available options to order when building a Corvette.
Now that pricing was announced, Chevrolet has distributed the new 2023 order guide. The 2023 order guide will also help you understand what is available for each trim level and whether it is a coupe or convertible.

Do Not Flip Your Z06
In an email sent out by GM on the 22nd of July to subscribers on its Z06 list, meant to highlight the previously announced pricing for the Z06, GM offered an incentive to Z06 owners who don't flip their cars within the first 12 months after purchase.
This incentive comes in the form of reward points to the value of $5000, which can be redeemed at GM financial payments. This development is meant to help reduce the rate at which Corvette owners flip their cars after a few months of purchase.
How effective this will be, we are yet to see. However, there are speculations that this won't have the desired effect, as many Z06 owners are more likely to make more by selling their car than the $5000, considering the recent trend of the Corvette used market.

ACS Spotlight
We are changing up how we are ending our Corvette News Summary. Before we were doing Customer Spotlights, but we felt bad not being able to include everyone's car. This month we are doing a photo/video dump of everything around ACS.
This could be behind the scenes footage we never put up, random little videos we take of testing stuff, and of course ACS installs and customer builds.
