How can I remotely start my C8 Corvette using the key fob?
Remote Starting Your C8 Corvette with the Key Fob
With remote start, you can start your C8 Corvette’s engine from outside the vehicle—letting the climate control system run with your last-used settings while the car stays locked and secure. Heated or ventilated seats, as well as the heated steering wheel (if equipped), may activate automatically when enabled in personalization settings.
Remote Start Overview
The center button (the one with the around doing around and 2x) on your Corvette’s remote key is for remote start. Let's call it the "S" button for start for the rest of the blog. During remote start, the turn signal lamps flash to confirm the request, and the parking lamps stay on while the engine runs. The system uses your previous climate control settings and may also automatically enable the rear window defogger, heated seats, or heated steering wheel depending on conditions and personalization settings.
Starting the Engine
- Prepare the vehicle: Ensure the Corvette is in P (Park) and all closures (hatch, trunk, convertible top, and tonneau cover) are fully secured.
- Activate remote start: Press the S button on the key fob twice in quick succession. The turn signals will flash, confirming the start request was received.
- Engine runs: The engine will run for up to 15 minutes per start unless stopped sooner.

Engine Run Time Limits
- Single start limit: Up to 15 minutes before automatic shutoff.
- Total runtime limit: Up to 30 minutes total (for example, two 15-minute starts, or multiple shorter cycles).
- Reset requirement: After reaching 30 minutes of cumulative runtime, the ignition must be turned on and then off before remote start can be used again.
Canceling a Remote Start
You can cancel a remote start at any time by doing one of the following:
- Press the S button on the key fob (parking lamps will turn off).
- Turn on the hazard flashers.
- Turn the vehicle on and then back off.
When Remote Start Will Not Work
The remote start feature will not operate if any of the following are true:
- The ignition is in any mode other than Off.
- The hatch or trunk is not closed.
- The convertible top is not fully open or closed.
- The tonneau cover is not closed (if equipped).
- The hazard warning flashers are on.
- There is an emission control system malfunction.
- The engine coolant temperature is too high.
- The oil pressure is low.
- The 30-minute total runtime limit has already been reached.
- The vehicle is not in P (Park).
After Start: Ready to Drive
When you’re ready to go, enter the vehicle with the key fob, press the brake pedal, and push the ENGINE START/STOP button. This transitions the Corvette from remote start mode into normal operation.
Quick Tips & Legal Notes
- Low fuel: Do not use remote start if the vehicle is low on fuel, as the car may run out before you drive.
- Key range: Remote key range may be shorter while the vehicle is running.
- Safety: Never use remote start in enclosed spaces like garages—carbon monoxide can build up quickly.
- Local laws: Some areas restrict idling or require that the car remain in your line of sight while using remote start. Always check your local regulations.
