Factory Caliper Colors by C8 Model & Model Year
This is the lookup table to use when identifying a C8. Start with the model, then the model year, then verify the J6 caliper-color RPO and the brake-system RPO. Chevrolet reused some color RPOs across different brake systems, and J6E changed finish names during the C8 run.

J6E Yellow Timeline — Same RPO, Three Factory Names
The yellow story deserves its own timeline because “J6E” alone does not identify the exact factory finish.

These standardized images are meant as visual references. The RPO code remains the authority; lighting, camera white balance, wheel finish and brake dust can all change how a caliper photographs.
Bright Red vs. Edge Red: J6F vs. J6N
The C8 has two different factory red caliper colors. J6F is Bright Red. J6N is Edge Red. They are separate factory options, and they are not interchangeable names for the same finish.
Bright Red is the more vivid, traditional Corvette red. Edge Red is deeper and more subdued. On a real caliper, cast and machined surfaces can reflect light differently, so one photo can make the same finish look lighter or darker than it does in person. That is exactly why ACS recommends using the RPO code instead of trying to identify the red by eye.
Edge Yellow vs. Velocity Yellow: The J6E Trap
J6E is the C8 caliper code that creates the most confusion because the RPO stayed the same while Chevrolet's published name changed. The 2020 GM brochure calls J6E simply Yellow-painted. The 2021 GM brochure changes the name to Edge Yellow-painted, and GM continues using Edge Yellow through MY2024. For MY2025 Chevrolet explicitly changed J6E from Edge Yellow to Velocity Yellow; the 2026 and 2027 order guides continue to list J6E as Velocity Yellow-painted.
How to Scan the Driver-Door QR Code
Open the driver's door and locate the certification label in the door-jamb area. Scan the QR code with a phone. The resulting data contains vehicle information followed by the factory RPO codes.
- Scan the QR code on the driver's door-jamb certification label.
- Find the J6-series code: J6A, J6B, J6D, J6E, J6F, J6L, J6N or J6O.
- If you see J6E, note the model year as well.
- Do not confuse the caliper-color code with the brake-system code.
Color Code vs. Brake System: Two Different Questions
A C8's caliper color and brake hardware are separate pieces of information. This distinction is critical. A Bright Red Stingray is not automatically a Z51. A red Z06 does not tell you whether the car has iron or carbon-ceramic rotors.

Stingray: standard brakes vs. Z51
On the Stingray, J55 identifies the Z51 performance brake system. The caliper color can still be Black, Bright Red, Edge Red or the appropriate J6E yellow. So “I have red brakes” tells us the finish — not whether the car is a Z51.
Z06: J56 and J57
The Z06 standard performance brake system uses six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers. J57 identifies the carbon-ceramic system and is included with the Z07 Performance Package. On applicable order guides, J6D Dark Gray Metallic is tied to J57, and J6L Orange requires J57.
E-Ray: carbon ceramic is standard
The E-Ray makes a great trivia question because carbon-ceramic brakes are standard. Changing the caliper from Dark Gray Metallic to Bright Red, Edge Red, Orange or yellow changes the finish — it does not remove the carbon-ceramic brake system.
2027 Grand Sport: JX6, J56 and J57
The 2027 Grand Sport introduces a three-level brake story. The base car uses JX6 touring/low-dust 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brakes with J6A Black calipers. Z52 Sport adds the J56 high-performance iron brake package, while Z52 Track adds J57 carbon-ceramic brakes with J6D Dark Gray Metallic calipers. J6L Orange requires J57. The 2027 Grand Sport X uses J57 carbon ceramic as standard equipment.
ZR1 / ZR1X: J58 vs. J59
ZR1 uses J58 ZR1-specific carbon-ceramic brakes as standard. Beginning with MY2026, the available ZTK package moves ZR1 to J59: an Alcon carbon-ceramic system with 10-piston front and 6-piston rear calipers. ZR1X uses J59 as standard equipment. The brake-system RPO and the J6 caliper-color RPO are still separate pieces of the build.
ACS Body-Color Match Is a Different Category
A body-color-matched ACS caliper cover is not the same thing as a factory J6 caliper color. For example, a G26 Sebring Orange Corvette can use an ACS cover matched to the exterior body color. That should be identified as a body-color-match application — not confused with the factory J6L Orange caliper option.
Why the Stingray and Widebody ACS Covers Are Different
The Z06/widebody caliper casting is different from the Stingray casting, so ACS could not simply scale the Stingray cover. The widebody version required a new cover and a different attachment system. A useful visual clue is the pair of horizontal lines on the face of the widebody/Z06-style caliper.
The updated widebody installation method requires wheel removal, while the Stingray installation has its own dedicated procedure.

How can I tell if my red calipers are Edge Red or Bright Red?
Scan the driver-door QR code. J6N = Edge Red and J6F = Bright Red. Do not rely on a phone photo.
How can I tell Edge Yellow from Velocity Yellow?
All of these use J6E, so the model year matters. GM's 2020 brochure calls it Yellow; GM calls it Edge Yellow for MY2021–2024; and MY2025–2027 is Velocity Yellow. ACS uses J6EY for the Edge Yellow match and J6EV for Velocity Yellow.
When did the C8 Grand Sport start?
Model year 2027. The 2027 C8 Grand Sport is a new widebody model with standard JX6 low-dust 6-piston/4-piston brakes, plus Z52 Sport (J56 iron) and Z52 Track (J57 carbon ceramic) brake configurations.
When did Blue calipers expand beyond ZR1?
J6B Blue appears on ZR1 for MY2025, expands to E-Ray and Z06 for MY2026, and becomes available on Stingray and Grand Sport for MY2027.
Does a red or yellow Stingray mean it has Z51?
No. The J6 code describes color. Z51/J55 describes the performance brake package.
Does a red E-Ray still have carbon-ceramic brakes?
Yes. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard on E-Ray; choosing another caliper color changes the finish, not the underlying brake system.
Does Dark Gray automatically mean carbon ceramic?

Is J6O Bronze the number zero?
No. The last character is the letter O.
Can ACS match the Corvette's body color instead of the factory caliper color?
Yes, for body-color-match applications offered by ACS. That is a separate color category from the GM J6 caliper-color RPOs. G26 Sebring Orange is a good example of why the two naming systems should not be mixed together.
